Journey To The Wisdom Tree
When my son was born, I decided it was time to begin my own business so I could stay home with him. However, becoming a mother and business owner at the same time proved slightly overwhelming. I wondered if I really knew who I was and what I wanted out of life. It is times like these in our lives that God can sometimes seem distant if not altogether silent. I prayed regularly, but didn’t feel I was hearing from God. And with all the changes in my life, I often wondered if I was doing things right or just completely messing everything up.
Looking back now, I see the journey I was on. From discovering what was in the roots of my life, to the structure that held things together and eventually what my contribution was to others.
On that journey, I discovered what I now call the Wisdom Tree.
The Wisdom Tree had deep roots. Roots that had grown over many, many years. Some reached deep into the ground, others spread out in all directions, searching for moisture in the soil. Much like a Willow Tree that aggressively seeks out water and are mostly found growing alongside streams or bodies of water.
The roots led to a strong, mighty trunk. The trunk was that of an Oak Tree. Giving the Wisdom Tree its strength to reach to the sky. Mighty to endure the winds that blew.
Its mighty trunk led to its majestic branches. Arching up and out, creating a canopy all around the Wisdom Tree. They flowed out in every direction and then cascaded down to enclose you in their protective embrace. The branches flowed easily in the breeze. The wind rustling through the leaves almost as a million whispers inviting the weary traveler.
I invite you to join me beneath the branches of the Wisdom Tree. Come sit and listen to the breeze blow through the leaves as it whispers God’s love and grace.
The Wisdom Tree is much like our lives. From the roots and the foundations of our lives, to that which gives us strength and endurance, all the way to the branches as we ourselves reach out and embrace others. We can learn so much if we take the time to sit and be still. As we give ourselves time to pause with our thoughts to ponder…
“Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10 KJV
