Be Still and Know
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 46:10 NLT
What does it mean to actually “be still and know that I am God”?
Jesus took the time away from everything to talk with God. Throughout the Bible, we see people going out to be alone and talk with the Lord. They did not carry devices to play the latest worship songs. They did not carry the latest “how to pray” book or the coolest study Bible and all the greatest pens and highlighters with them.
It was just them and God. One on one. They talked to Him because they knew Him.
How thrilled would God be to know His child came to just sit at the feet of the throne for no other reason but to talk with Him! Not to see or hear anyone else speak or sing. Not to accommodate or serve anyone else. But to just sit with the Father.
We see in the story of Martha and Mary, there may be things that need to be done. But there is only one thing worth being concerned about.
38As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10: 38-42 NLT
May we be like Mary. May we not be distracted.
